Weekending

Just as it’s advisable to surround yourself with doctors, so the Weekending promoters have surrounded themselves with journalists. Get them to play your party – so the theory goes – and the press takes care of itself. So this week the special guest is Jockey Slut editor Rob Wood, a man whose love of afro-beat knows no bounds, and guests due to play in the coming weeks include Worldpop’s ever-laconic Rob Da Bank and the ubiquitous freelance Frank Tope. Only there’s no cynicism in the move, for Wood, Da Bank, and Tope are all excellent DJs in their own right, capable of judging a mood and captivating a crowd. And whether it’s the award winning bar or the award winning cocktail list, Christopher Joseph & Matthew Burgess’s night feels like the perfect introduction to the weekend, credible but not exclusive; relaxed, but not soporific.
